A message from CMW senior resident musician Jesse Holstein:
It is my pleasure to announce that the sixth annual Fred Kelley Scholarship Concert will take place on Sunday, May 5th at 2:30 pm in the RISD Museum Grand Gallery. This concert is presented each year to support Community MusicWorks students who wish to attend the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music in Nelson, New Hampshire during the summer months. Apple Hill is a unique organization that brings musicians from diverse backgrounds and cultures together to play chamber music together through their Playing for Peace program. It is a place very dear to my heart and I have taught there every summer since 2004.
Last year was a special milestone for the Fred Kelley Scholarship Fund, as it enabled a CMW student quartet to attend Apple Hill where they received intensive coaching on a Shostakovich quartet. They had a fabulous time and we hope to send many CMW students in the future.

This year, we are particularly fortunate that the wonderful Apple Hill ensemble-in-residence at Apple Hill will be performing the concert. As many of you know, Providence native and Fred's son, Mike Kelley, is the violist of the quartet. The program will feature Schubert Lieder for violin and viola, arranged by the enigmatic Florestan Gayfeather, the First String Quartet by 20th century master György Ligeti, and finally the great g-minor viola quintet by Mozart. I will be playing violin in the Schubert with Mike and joining the Apple Hill String Quartet on viola in the Mozart.
The concert is free but donations of any amount will be gladly accepted. One hundred percent of your tax-deductible donation to the Fred Kelley Fund goes towards supporting CMW students who wish to attend the Apple Hill Summer Festival.
Hope to see you there,
Fred Kelley Scholarship Concert
